The inquest for an Oasis fan who fell to his death at the end of one of the Britpop band’s Wembley Stadium concerts has been formally opened.
Lee Claydon, 45, died from “multiple bodily injuries” when he plunged from the upper tier of the stadium on August 2, Barnet Coroner’s Court heard.
He was rushed for urgent medical attention after the horror fall, but was pronounced dead at the stadium’s medical centre.
A police officer told the hearing a large number of potential witnesses came forward after news of the death emerged, and detectives are still gathering information on the circumstances of the fall.
Mr Claydon, a landscape gardener and father from Bournemouth in Dorset, was a “lifelong” Oasis fan and had gone to the concert with his brother and his brother’s children.
Coroner Andrew Walker opened the inquest into Mr Claydon’s death on Thursday, and adjourned the case for further investigation.
“Mr Claydon died at Wembley Stadium in Olympic Way on August 2, 2025”, he said.
“He had attended a concert at Wembley Stadium when he fell. He was taken to the medical centre at Wembley, and a doctor pronounced his life extinct at 10.30pm.
“The Post Mortem examination undertaken by a doctor on August 6 has given the preliminary medical cause of death as multiple bodily injuries.”
Members of Mr Claydon’s family watched the brief hearing online through a videolink.
Detective Inspector Aimee-Leigh Sando said detectives working on the case do not yet know how long their investigation will last.
“We are reviewing all the evidence in this case, including CCTV and surrounding evidence that we believe may be appropriate at this time”, she said.
“We have taken statements from significant witnesses present during the fall. A substantial amount of personnel came forward after we put out the media request.
“We are sorting through what is evidential and intelligence for us.”
In the aftermath of the death, more than £30,000 was raised online to support Mr Claydon’s bereaved partner Amanda and child.
“Our family has been turned upside down and are struggling to deal with this devastation and unexpected loss,” Mr Claydon’s brother Aaron wrote.
“Lee was a loving family man who was a role model to his son.
“Lee would have done anything for any of us and he was taken from us far too soon, and we will miss him so very much.
“Lee loved all outdoor activities, one of his favourite hobbies was fishing. He also loved music and his guitar. He also really enjoyed going to watch and support the boys and his nephew at their football games.”
Mr Claydon’s partner Amanda made a request at the end of the inquest hearing for his full name – Lee Aaron Clive Claydon – to be used by the court.
The fall happened during a run of stadium shows for Oasis’ sell-out Live ’25 reunion tour – their first since splitting in 2009.
In a statement, the band said: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show.
“Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.”
A spokesperson for Wembley Stadium said the venue “operates to a very high health and safety standard, fully meeting legal requirements for the safety of spectators and staff, and is certified to and compliant with the ISO 45001 standard.
“We work very closely and collaboratively with all relevant event delivery stakeholders – including event owners, local authorities, the Sports Grounds Safety Authority and the police – to deliver events to high standards of safety, security and service for everyone attending or working in the venue.”
The Health and Safety Executive was informed of the death, and the Metropolitan Police appealed for evidence, including mobile phone footage from the crowd.
The Coroner adjourned the inquest for a review on November 19, when he will decide on the witnesses who will be called for the full inquest.
