Innovative IT interventions essential to popularise AYUSH, says national workshop

Calling for innovative information technology (IT) interventions to increase the popularity of AYUSH across the country, a national workshop organised by the National AYUSH Mission (NAM) Kerala in association with the State’s AYUSH department and the Union Ministry of AYUSH here on Thursday pointed out that inter-State cooperation is needed to bridge the digital gap for easy accessibility to Ayurveda and other indigenous treatment systems.

Health Minister Veena George, who inaugurated the event, said Kerala has developed a comprehensive wellness system rooted in ancient Indian texts dating back to more than 3,500 years. “This holistic approach continues to be firmly embedded in the State’s healthcare delivery and management,” she added.

According to the Minister, bridging the digital divide is important to ensure that its benefits reached all sections of society. Noting that nationwide data sharing was essential for the benefits of digitisation to reach the larger public, the Minister expressed the hope of earliest implementation of centralised digital solutions in the country.

Centralised website

The two-days long event is attended by delegates from all States and Union Territories of the country. Addressing the event online, Union AYUSH Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha said the AYUSH Ministry was planning to introduce a centralised website system that can be used by all States. “While several State AYUSH missions have implemented their own IT solutions, moving to a centralised system will add to the effectiveness of such knowledge-sharing on a national basis,” he added.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Rajan N. Khobragade presided over the session. NAM Kerala Director D. Sajith Babu, Union Ministry of AYUSH Joint Secretary Kavita Jain and others spoke.
