TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has formed a new partnership with the United Kingdom to strengthen national cybersecurity. This agreement aims to strengthen the country's digital resilience in the face of increasing complexity and ensure support for digital transformation.Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, emphasizes the importance of cybersecurity as the backbone of digital sovereignty. He stated, "Cybersecurity is the foundation of our digital sovereignty and economic stability," during a meeting with the UK's Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia, Matthew Downing, at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology office in Jakarta, as quoted from a press release on October 30, 2025.Partnering with a country that has more experience in the digital sector is seen as a strategic step to improve Indonesia's ability to combat cyber threats. "The experience of the UK is very valuable, and we hope that the partnership between the two countries can improve national digital security and resilience," he expressed.He emphasized that the 2024 hacking incident against the Temporary National Data Center serves as an important lesson, underscoring the need for robust protection standards for all digital infrastructures.The government is currently drafting a cybersecurity bill to ensure that all strategic digital infrastructure, in both the government and private sectors, adopts adequate protection systems.Matthew Downing welcomed this move and considered the partnership to be strategic for both countries. According to him, the evolving cyber threats also open up broader opportunities for collaboration."Strengthening cybersecurity is not just a technical priority but a strategic necessity for both countries.
