Singapore/Jakarta: Indonesia appears to have wrecked its chances of hosting the 2036 Olympic Games and may lose other sporting events after another decision to deny visas to Israeli athletes. Olympic gold medallist and reigning world champion Artem Dolgopyat is among the 12-member Israeli gymnastics team banned from competing at the world artistic championships in Jakarta this week because of Indonesia’s firm pro-Palestine stance. In response, the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday suspended “any form of dialogue” with Indonesia about its 2036 Games bid. It has also recommended that the country be scrubbed from the list of potential hosts for tournaments that involve Olympic sports. “The IOC very much regrets the situation, especially after the remarkable step towards a peace agreement at the peace summit in Egypt, as witnessed by the president of Indonesia,” the IOC said, referring to President Prabowo Subianto’s attendance in Sharm el-Sheikh.
