India’s wholesale price index-based inflation accelerated to 0.52 per cent in August on an annual basis as against -0.58 per cent in August, data from the Commerce Ministry on Monday showed.A Reuters poll suggested that the WPI may quicken to 0.30 per cent in the said month, owing to a minor increase in prices of food articles, mineral oils, crude petroleum & natural gas, manufacture of basic metals etc.”Positive rate of inflation in August, 2025 is primarily due to increase in prices of food products, other manufacturing, non-food articles, other non-metallic mineral products and other transport equipment etc,” the government said in a press release.Wholesale food inflation quickened to 0.21 per cent on an annual basis after falling to -2.15 per cent in July. Wholesale inflation in crude petroleum and natural gas grew -9.87 per cent in August 2025 as against a surge of 1.77 in the same month last year.Live EventsFor the primary articles segment, the inflation rate in August surged to -2.10 per cent from -4.95 per cent in the preceding month.Manufactured product prices rose 2.55 per cent against a 2.05 per cent drop in the previous month. Fuel and power prices fell -3.17 per cent compared with a -2.43 per cent drop in July.The government also released India’s retail inflation data which showed that it inched up to 2.07 per cent in August on an annual basis as against 1.55 per cent in the July.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
