Indian Railways to operate 12,000 Trains for Diwali and Chhath Puja rush

New Delhi: On preparation of railways during festive season, Executive Director, Information & Publicity, Railway Board, Dilip Kumar said, "...Indian Railways has made comprehensive plans to operate more than 12,000 trains this year on the occasion of Diwali and Chhath Puja. In the past few days, through the trains we have operated, we have facilitated around 1 crore passengers solely through special trains... The main objective of running these trains is to provide convenience to the large number of people who wish to travel to their homes during the festivals... We have created holding areas at all major stations, increased the facilities of ticket counters at all stations... All railway arrangements are being monitored round the clock. The 12 lakh railway employees are working tirelessly day and night to help passengers reach their destinations... Last year, we operated 7,724 special trains. This year we have decided to operate 12,000 trains... In the last 4 days, approximately 15 lakh passengers have travelled to their respective destinations using various stations in New Delhi..."
