NEW DELHI: The Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate claimed responsibility for the killing of a 68-year-old Indian-origin businessman who was shot dead in his car in Canada in a targeted shooting.The incident occurred outside his home in Abbotsford, British Columbia, on Monday morning. The post alleged that Sahsi was involved in a drug trafficking operation and was asked for money by the gang, which he refused to pay, even blocking their number.The sensational killing prompted brief lockdowns at nearby schools as the Abbotsford Police patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 31300 block of Ridgeview Drive. Upon arrival, officers secured the area and confirmed the incident was confined to a single parked vehicle on the roadway. Inside the vehicle, they discovered a 68-year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries. A homicide investigation was subsequently initiated.The probe revealed that the shooter waited in a parked car nearby. When Sahsi got into his vehicle, the assailant opened fire and fled in his vehicle.The govt of Canada recently listed the Bishnoi syndicate as a 'terrorist entity', enabling the law enforcement agencies to use significant investigative tools and access the resources needed to disrupt operations of the gang. The terrorist designation also unlocks critical powers, allowing the Canadian police to prosecute offences pertaining to financing, travel, and recruitment. A terrorist listing means anything owned by that group in Canada, such as property, vehicles, and money, can be frozen or seized.An undeterred Lawrence Bishnoi gang carried out drive-by shootings at three places in Surrey, Canada, soon after it was declared a terrorist entity. The premises targeted by the shooters belonged to a restaurant chain owner. His shooters also carried out multiple shootings at establishments purportedly belonging to his rival, Navi Tesi.Bishnoi's Man Friday, Goldy Dhillon, claimed responsibility in a post. The post read: "Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. Greetings to all brothers. I, Goldy Dhillon, associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claim responsibility for the shootings at G 76's three locations: 13025 76 Ave, 2160 King George Blvd, South Surrey, and 21768 Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge.”Dhillon is a notorious gangster associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for various crimes, including extortion and targeted killings. He recently claimed responsibility for a shooting incident at Kapil Sharma's cafe in Canada as well.
