Indian Coast Guard organises cleanup drive in Visakhapatnam

The headquarters, Indian Coast Guard District 6 (Andhra Pradesh), Visakhapatnam, organised an international coastal cleanup (ICC) drive at RK Beach, in Visakhapatnam, on Saturday (September 20, 2025), as part of the environmental awareness campaign in connection with Prime Minister’s ‘Swatchhata Hi Sewa’.

This year’s ICC was organised on the theme “Turning the tide on ocean trash.” The ICC day is celebrated under the aegis of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP).

Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat participated in the event as chief guest while district Collector MN Harendhira Prasad was guest of honour.

Volunteers from various agencies such as CISF, NCC, Adani Group, HPCL, IOCL, schools and colleges along with ICG personnel and their families participated in the event.

Approximately 600 kg of recyclable plastic and about 700 kg of other dry waste were collected from the beach during the Cleanup Drive, according to Deputy Inspector General Rajesh Mittal, Commander Coast Guard District HQ-6.
