Team India will look to build on the gains of the 2-2 draw in the five-match Test series against England when they take on West Indies in a two-match series beginning at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday. The series begins just days after the controversial end to the Asia Cup 2025 title-winning campaign for the Indians with players like captain Shubman Gill Jasprit Bumrah Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel – all part of the playing 11.
Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav was the highest wicket-taker in the Asia Cup 2025 with 17 wickets in just 7 matches but might once again find himself out of the playing 11 with the green-top awaiting the players at Ahmedabad. Captain Gill has already hinted that the grass on the Narendra Modi Stadium pitch might tempt him to go in with three pacers which means Kuldeep may have to make way for Prasidh Krishna who will team up with Bumrah and hero of England series – Mohammed Siraj.
It will be interesting to see if India opt for an extra batter in Devdutt Padikkal or go in with all-round options of either Axar Patel or Nitish Kumar Reddy. The rest of the playing 11 has a settled look with B. Sai Sudharsan expected to get an extended run in this series.
West Indies on the other hand have not won a series in India since 1983 and they last won a Test here in 1994 in Mohali. Recently they were bundled out for just 27 by Australia in a Test match at home.
Roston Chase’s side have already suffered a couple of injury blows to their pacers Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph. Jediah Blades is set to replace Alzarri in the playing 11 while either Anderson Phillip or debutant Johann Layne could come in for Shamar.
