Kolkata has turned into a high-security zone ahead of the first Test between India and South Africa, which is all set to get underway on November 14 at the iconic Eden Gardens. The decision to tighten up the security came after a tragic car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday, November 10, that killed 13 people and injured more than 20. The blast at the Lal Qila has prompted major cities, including Kolkata, to increase security. Both India and South Africa have already reached Kolkata, and the Kolkata Police have taken charge of ensuring complete safety for both teams for the two-match Test series opener at the Eden Gardens. Three-tier security system in place for India vs South Africa Test at Eden Gardens after the Delhi blast It is being said that special arrangements have been made for both India and South Africa players’ stay, travel routes, practice sessions, and match days. Security personnel have been instructed to maintain a strict watch from the moment the players step out of their hotels until they return after each day’s play and even for the practice sessions. Eden Gardens, which will host the first Test, has been brought under a three-tier security system. The first layer covers the outer perimeter with constant patrol and checkpoints, the second secures all entry gates with metal detectors and scanners, and the third includes the spectator areas and player enclosures, where officers will be stationed in plain clothes to detect any suspicious activity. Kolkata Police tighten security around team hotels To ensure there are no lapses, CCTV cameras have been installed across all key areas, and movement around the stadium will be closely tracked. Entry with bags or prohibited items will not be allowed, and fans can expect multiple security checks before entering the stadium. The police have also placed restrictions on vehicle movement around the stadium during match hours to avoid overcrowding and ensure smooth coordination. Security has also been intensified around the team hotels. Police personnel will maintain 24-hour surveillance, with additional forces stationed near the main entrances and surrounding areas. Both teams are being escorted by special convoys during travel. Sources also mentioned that Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir’s planned visit to the Kalighat Temple might be postponed due to the current security situation following the Delhi blast.
