For the top-seeded pair, Marcella and Victoria, their first outing in India at the FIP Silver TMT Indian Open was a mix of culture shock, quick adaptation, and admiration for the local spirit “It’s been very nice so far,” smiled Marcella. “The traffic and the noise, that’s something different from what I’m used to! But the hotel is great, the club is good, and the people are very nice. I’m positively surprised, actually. For Victoria, the biggest difference was on court. “With the humidity and heat here in India and since we’re playing outdoors, the courts are really fast,” she explained. “It’s nice but different. We needed a day to adjust, but for the semi-finals, we’ll be ready. Their Indian opponents had given a strong fight, and the duo had encouraging words for them. “First, it’s great that the girls made it to the quarter-finals — that’s something special in your own country,” Marcella said. “I’d say they should reduce unforced errors and maybe slow down the pace. They can hit hard, but on fast courts, that can backfire. Mix it up a bit — that will help them take the next step. Victoria added, “Don’t give up. When we started, we also had to make the jump to an international level. You play against people who’ve competed at this standard for years. Keep competing, keep learning — that’s how you improve. Both players were impressed by India’s growing interest in padel, even if it’s still finding its footing in mainstream awareness. “It’s nice that it’s growing everywhere,” said Victoria. “Yesterday we took a taxi, and the driver thought we played badminton!
