Getty Images The Indo-Danish Business Council (IDBC) has been launched in Copenhagen as a strategic think tank and collaboration platform to foster deeper innovation, policy, and investment ties between India and the Nordic region.The launch event, held at the Talent Garden Copenhagen, marked a major step in building structured cooperation across life sciences, deep tech, healthcare, sustainability, and venture ecosystems. The event brought together Nordic founders, investors, and policymakers, featuring 15 early-stage startups, 11 of which were in lifescience, healthtech, and medtech, alongside innovators in AI infrastructure, cleantech, fintech, and consumer products.Opening the event, Manish Prabhat, Ambassador of India to Denmark, highlighted the growing potential of India–Denmark collaboration:“The Green Strategic Partnership between India and Denmark has set a strong precedent. Through the IDBC, we now extend this spirit into innovation, entrepreneurship, and knowledge exchange. The goal is not only to collaborate — but to think and act together.”Offering the Danish perspective, Freddy Svane, former Ambassador of Denmark to India and Japan, remarked:Live Events“Innovation without borders is the future. India and Denmark bring complementary strengths — scale and agility from India, precision and trust from Denmark. A think tank like IDBC can transform this complementarity into shared innovation and prosperity.”Sudhir Mishra, Co-Chair of IDBC and Founder of Trust Legal, emphasized the Council’s long-term vision. “We are building IDBC not only as a business council, but as an India–Nordic policy and innovation think tank — one that generates insights, builds frameworks, and nurtures partnerships between government, academia, and startups. We want this to be a space where strategy meets execution.”Dr. Rajat Pandey, Co-Chair of IDBC, noted, “The early interest from Nordic founders in exploring India is a promising sign. IDBC can play a pivotal role in shaping how innovation, policy, and capital flow seamlessly between the two ecosystems to deliver real-world health and economic impact.”Of the 15 founders who presented, seven expressed clear intent to collaborate or expand into India, a strong indication of the growing appeal of the Indian innovation ecosystem.The session was moderated by the Akshay Pai, Co-Founder of Cerebriu, who brought a distinctly Nordic tone of curiosity and clarity to discussions on India’s healthcare and technology opportunities. Valuable market context was also shared by Freddy Svane, reflecting on India’s consumer dynamics and sensitivity to pricing — insights especially relevant for Danish startups seeking to adapt to India’s scale and diversity.Looking ahead, IDBC announced plans to host an annual Indo-Nordic Innovation & Leadership Summit, envisioned as a Davos-style forum for high-level exchange between policymakers, business leaders, investors, and innovators.“We envision an annual summit that convenes the brightest minds from India and the Nordics — a platform where ideas turn into cross-border initiatives,” said Dr. Pandey. “Just as Davos brings global economic thinking together, IDBC will be the platform for India–Nordic innovation foresight.”This annual summit will complement the upcoming TechBBQ Nordic–India Startup Summit (NISS) 2026, where IDBC will curate a dedicated track on deep tech, lifescience, and sustainable innovation partnerships.The Indo-Danish Business Council (IDBC) is a policy and innovation think tank dedicated to advancing cross-border collaboration between India and the Nordic region.
