India’s Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship recently visited the experimental mine site at the University of Queensland (UQ), where he observed advanced research modules in the mining sector during a guided tour organised by the university.

The visit included a productive meeting with UQ Vice Chancellor and President, Prof. Deborah Terry AC, and Brett Lovegrove, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Partnerships). Representatives from UQ’s Sustainable Minerals Institute, Study Queensland, and UQ Skills also joined the discussions.

Beyond reviewing research and innovation in mining, talks explored the possibility of establishing a Centre for Excellence in the Mining Sector in India, highlighting opportunities for deeper collaboration between Indian and Australian institutions.

The engagement showcased the growing importance of partnerships in mining technology, sustainability, and skill development, aligning with India’s long-term vision for resource management and workforce training.
