Independent inquiry launched into Leeds maternity service after ‘repeated failures’

The Health Secretary says an independent inquiry is being launched into “repeated failures” in maternity services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Maternity services were downgraded to “inadequate” earlier this year – after the care watchdog said it had posed a significant risk to women and babies, while staff were afraid to speak out. It’s been welcomed by bereaved families – who have spent years campaigning for an inquiry.
