A former Emmerdale star has revealed how he was turned down for a major reality programme. Alexander Lincoln rose to prominence portraying Joe Tate on the ITV soap, making his first appearance in 2019. As the offspring of legendary character Kim Tate (Claire King), Jamie quickly became a viewer favourite. He was also involved in numerous major plotlines on the programme, including his various conflicts, his strained bond with Kim and becoming a father with Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham). However, in 2021, actor Alexander departed the soap and Jamie was last witnessed on screen after staging his own demise in a vehicle accident. With his mother Kim believing he had perished, Jamie quietly relocated to live with daughter Millie and her grandmother. Following his soap role, Alexander has kept himself occupied, featuring in programmes such as BBC soap Doctors, comedy-drama series Everything I Know About Love and critically acclaimed film, In from the Side, reports the Daily Star . Yet it emerges he nearly secured a place on ITV’s popular programme Dancing on Ice. Nevertheless, matters didn’t work out for Alexander during his tryout. In footage posted on Attitude’s Instagram, Alexander disclosed: “I am terrible at ice skating. I did the worst, worst audition for Dancing on Ice once, in which I didn’t get it,” he continued. Remembering the tryout, Alexander observed: “It wasn’t family-friendly enough.” Alexander didn’t allow his Dancing on Ice rejection to discourage him though, and his career has subsequently flourished. This year, he landed a leading role in the Hollywood film, The Groomsmen: Second Chances, which made history as Hallmark Channel’s first-ever gay wedding story film. In the film, released last week in the US, Alexander portrays Zack, sharing the screen with stars such as Mean Girls’ Jonathan Bennett, B. J.Britt and Owen Davis. The plot revolves around Danny (Jonathan Bennett) who travels to Greece to organise his friend and business manager Zack’s (Alexander Lincoln) wedding to a lawyer. However, Danny soon discovers that he has feelings for Zack and is in love with him. Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
