Since becoming a parent, I’ve found it difficult to squeeze in time for the gym or to properly keep fit. Between the chaos of having a toddler, and trying to stay on top of everyday life, I just don’t have the freedom to disappear for an hour-long workout anymore.

So, I decided to give the Cybex Avi Spin a go. After a few weeks of using it, both for runs and as an everyday stroller, I feel like I can give it an honest review.

And spoiler alert: I really like it.

Having a running buggy has made such a difference – it means I can combine time with my little one and exercise, without having to compromise on either.

Why I’m a stroller fitness convert

The first thing I noticed is how smooth it feels to push. The air-filled tires and suspension do their job really well – pavement, gravel paths, or the odd bumpy bit in the park haven’t been a problem. My little one seems comfy in there too, no bouncing around or fussing, which is always a relief.

The handlebar is adjustable, ensuring I can keep my arms at a comfortable height. Plus, there’s a handbrake on the handle, which makes me feel so much safer. Going downhill, I can slow things down without breaking stride, and it gives me that extra bit of confidence when I’m running with the buggy.

The XXL canopy is brilliant. It’s UPF 50+ and pulls down really far, which means I don’t have to stress about the sun being in my child’s face. I also love that there’s mesh for airflow, which stops things from getting too stuffy. And if my little one falls asleep mid-run, the seat reclines nicely and has a padded leg rest, so it’s actually comfortable for them to snooze while I keep going.

It’s important to note that for safety you have to manually lock the front wheel before you start running. When it’s in swivel mode, it’s amazing for walking around shops or weaving through crowds, once clicked into the locked position though, it’s completely steady and runs in a straight line.

Even when I’m not running, the Avi Spin has been a solid everyday stroller. It steers easily, feels light, and, while heavier and not as compact as a regular stroller, still folds down small enough to fit in the car boot without a wrestling match.

The Cybex Avi Spin ticks all the boxes for me: smooth suspension, a comfy seat for my child, and more than anything, it’s helped me carve out time for fitness again, something that’s so easy to lose sight of when you’ve got a toddler.

Plus, knowing that it can be used right from birth with the Cot S or the Cloud G i-Size makes it feel like even better value.

Admittedly it’s not cheap at £609.95, but it’s suitable for kids aged up to four years old, so you can certainly get your money’s worth over the years (especially if you end up having more than one child).

Plus, an annual gym membership can cost anywhere between £300 and £2,000. So if you swapped your gym membership for a running buggy, you could ultimately make a saving.

If you’re an active parent who wants to keep running without giving up the convenience of a stroller, I’d definitely recommend giving it a go.
