Ikea unveils affordable Matter-compatible smart home lineup with 21 new products

Ikea has a new smart home lineup that encompasses 21 products, all of which are Matter compatible. The products span lighting, sensors, remotes, and smart plugs. The Swedish furniture and home goods purveyor notes that its aim here is to make smart products affordable and interoperable. Alongside the new products, there are improvements coming to existing products, which are revamped to work with Matter. Since all the products are Matter-enabled, they need a smart home hub to work, like the Ikea Dirigera hub, for instance. “Until now, smart home technology hasn’t been easy enough to use for most people — or affordable enough for many to consider. This launch brings us closer to helping everyone feel ready and confident to get started,” said David Granath, range manager of lighting and home electronics at Ikea of Sweden, in the announcement. New range includes smart bulbs, sensors, and remotes designed for interoperability The wide range of products in the launch fall primarily into three categories: lighting, sensors, and control. Lighting involves a new smart bulb range called Kajplats that has eleven variations. The line is a mix of shapes, sizes, lumen levels, and styles — for both color and white spectrum, Ikea noted in the announcement blog post. The new range expands on Ikea's existing Trådfri smart bulb offerings, as Kajplats boasts more functionality, color options, and light intensity spans. The lineup comprises standard globe-shaped bulbs, compact bulbs, clear-glass decorative bulbs, and a directional spotlight GU10. As for the sensors, there are five variants for motion, air quality, humidity, and water leakage. Myggspray is for hands-free, automatic indoor and outdoor lighting. Myggbett is a door and window sensor that sends phone notifications. Timmerflotte is an indoor climate sensor that measures temperature and humidity. Air quality sensor Alpstuga measures CO2 particles, temperature, and humidity, and works with Ikea air purifiers. Lastly, the Klippbok is a water leakage sensor that has a sound alert and sends phone notifications when connected to a hub. For effective control of the products, there is a new wide range of Bilresa remote controls featuring dual buttons and a scroll wheel, allowing users to turn lights on and off, change colors, and more. They come with control kits for customization. And for a smarter solution to plug less intelligent items into, the Grillplats smart plug emables remote operation of ordinary lamps and smaller appliances.
