IIT Delhi, University of Queensland Launch Joint PhD Programme; APplications Begin

Australia's University of Queensland (UQ) and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) have announced the opening of Expressions of Interest (EoI) for a Joint Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme, commencing in July 2026. Applications are invited from exceptional candidates across diverse disciplines, including Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Humanities, and Social Sciences. EoIs can be submitted online until 7 pm (IST) on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, via the official website, i.e. uqiitd.org/study. Scholarships Through the UQ–IITD joint PhD programme, students can receive a scholarship to study at two research-intensive institutions – The University of Queensland (UQ) and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) on multidisciplinary projects. Applicants do not need to apply separately for a UQ–IITD scholarship, as they will automatically be considered for a UQ–IITD scholarship as a part of the application process. If students are successful in their application to the UQ–IITD joint PhD, they will be offered a scholarship for the duration of their candidature of up to four years (full-time study) to allow students to focus on their research. Please note, that i-applicants with fellowships (CSIR, UCG-NET, etc.) are encouraged to apply for all i-student projects. However, some projects will only consider applications from i-students with a fellowship (CSIR, UCG-NET, etc.). If applicable, please provide evidence of fellowships as a part of the application process. Enrolled students will study in both Australia and India as a part of their degree. On the successful completion of the programme, they will be offered a jointly awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from both UQ and IITD. The collaborative programme offers candidates the opportunity to undertake cutting-edge research under the supervision of leading academics from both institutions while experiencing the academic environments of India and Australia. For prospective students, online information sessions will also be orgainsed on November 11, 2025 (registration link- shorturl.at/QQoIe) and December 10, 2025 (registration link- shorturl.at/vjVp1), where they can get more information about the programme structure, eligibility, and application process. Additionally, current students will share their experiences and presenters will be on hand to answer any questions.
