Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), the firm behind the Taj brand of hotels has announced the signing of a Taj hotel in Pondicherry. The hotel, a greenfield project, will be located on the outskirts of White Town. Spread across 52 acres, Taj Pondicherry will have 180 rooms. “Pondicherry has witnessed a steady rise in domestic travel and a rebound in foreign arrivals, reinforcing its position as a key leisure destination. The addition of Taj Pondicherry will cater to the growing demand for large-scale social events in the region,” said Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President, Real Estate & Development, IHCL The hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, two specialty restaurants, a bar and a lounge along with the largest indoor banquet hall of 10,700 sqft. “We are happy to venture into the hospitality sector with IHCL. This hotel will be a landmark destination in the region,” said MK Rajagopalan, MGM Healthcare, The new signing comes at a time when Hospitality major Hilton recently expanded its presence in Chennai with the signing of Hilton Chennai Egmore.
