IGP commends DEPOWA over scholarship awards to children of fallen heroes

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday commended the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for launching a groundbreaking initiative to award full scholarships to the children of fallen heroes.

This was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.

According to the statement, the IGP gave the commendation while receiving a delegation of DEPOWA, led by its National President, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The IGP reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining public order, and preserving democracy in the country.

The statement further noted that IGP Egbetokun emphasised that the NPF remains dedicated to fulfilling its constitutional mandate while continuing to benefit from the cooperation of stakeholders such as DEPOWA and other affiliate organisations.

Mrs. Musa, who led the delegation on the visit tagged “Thank You to Our Troops,” revealed that the full scholarship programme for the children of fallen heroes would commence with the commissioning of the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy in September 2026.

She explained that the scholarship would not only benefit the children of fallen heroes but also promote national unity by admitting students from neighbouring communities.

She further commended the Inspector-General of Police and lauded police officers for their sacrifices in combating violent crime and contributing to international peacekeeping efforts.
