International General Insurance Holdings Ltd has appointed Malcolm Barnes, a London market veteran, as head of speciality treaty, in a move aimed at expanding the company’s reinsurance capabilities. Based in IGI’s London office at 20 Fenchurch Street, Mr Barnes will be responsible for building and managing the group’s speciality treaty reinsurance business, adding both depth and a dedicated London presence to its reinsurance team. With more than 35 years of experience in the London market, Mr Barnes joins from Amlin Syndicate 2001, where he led the marine treaty reinsurance team. He previously held senior underwriting roles across speciality reinsurance lines at several Lloyd’s syndicates. Registered in Bermuda, IGI is an international speciality insurer and reinsurer underwriting a broad portfolio that includes energy, property, marine, political violence and reinsurance treaty business. “We are excited to bring Malcolm on board as part of our reinsurance team,” said Chris Jarvis, IGI’s chief underwriting officer. “He comes with significant underwriting experience and will be a strong fit as IGI continues to build its treaty reinsurance portfolio. “His experience and network will be an asset to IGI as we look to expand speciality treaty within our reinsurance portfolio, with particular focus on marine, energy and terror/political violence.”
