Ice Cream Bars Recall Map Shows New Warning to States

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc., is recalling limited numbers of Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars due to fears that they might contain wheat. Newsweek reached out to the company via email on Wednesday for comment. Why It Matters Numerous public health alerts and recalls have been issued this year due to the potential for damaged products, foodborne illness, contamination and undeclared food allergens. Millions of Americans experience food sensitivities or allergies every year. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA,) the nine “major” food allergens in the United States are eggs, milk, fish, wheat, soybeans, crustacean shellfish, sesame, tree nuts and peanuts. People with a severe sensitivity or an allergy to wheat “run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the recall alert says. What To Know According to the alert, the mini bars impacted have a batch code number of LLA519501 and a best-by date of January 31, 2027. The product affected is the 6-count packages. The bars were shipped to Kroger retailers in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming, the alert says. The bars were also shipped to Giant Eagle retail locations in Indiana, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. There have been no illnesses or injuries related to the recall and no additional Häagen-Dazs products are impacted, the alert says. Below is a map of the impacted states
