Michael Amer Mahama, son of Ghanaian business mogul Ibrahim Mahama, has made a bold step in his young career after signing a two-year contract with French club USL Dunkerque.

From Tema to Europe: Michael Amer joins USL Dunkerque

The news was first revealed by local football analyst Mohammed Shaban, who wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) handle:

“The 19-year-old talent from Nice Ibrahim Sporting Club has completed the transfer, embarking on a new journey in French football.”

Here’s Shaban’s post:

Amer has been viewed as a promising player by fans and pundits alike, standing out for his sharp vision and technique at Nice Ibrahim Sporting Club.

His progress eventually earned him a call-up to Ghana’s Under 20 squad for the African Cup of Nations earlier this year.

Although Ghana’s Black Satellites exited at the quarter-final stage after a penalty defeat to Egypt, the teenager managed to make an appearance in the final group game against the Central African Republic, coming on in stoppage time.

According to Transfermarkt, it was his only outing at the tournament, but it underlined the belief that he was one for the future.

Since then, Amer has been dedicated to private training sessions, keeping himself in shape and waiting for an opportunity abroad.

Andre Ayew leads support for Michael Amer

Following confirmation of the deal, former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew was among the first to congratulate him.

Sharing his support on Instagram, Ayew wrote: “Congratulations, young blood. We are all with you…the beginning of a long journey.”

Here is Andre Ayew’s post:

Ayew’s message carries weight, given his own celebrated career in France with clubs such as Olympique Marseille, FC Lorient, Arles-Avignon and Le Havre.

His endorsement adds an encouraging voice as Amer begins life in European football.

Dunkerque, based in northern France, currently competes in Ligue 2, having earned promotion from the third tier during the 2022-23 campaign.

The club has never featured in Ligue 1 but has built a reputation for nurturing emerging talents, offering Amer the perfect platform to grow his career.

With the move completed, Michael Amer Mahama now carries the hopes of not just his family name but also Ghanaian fans eager to see another youngster thrive on the European stage.
