'I was on The Traitors and here are the show secrets and how it really works'

The Traitors favourite Katelyn Divilly has revealed some of the behind the scenes secrets of the show.

Every night viewers see all of the contestants leave Slane Castle, where the show is filmed, before the traitors return to the conclave to murder one of the faithfuls.

The Galway native shared that some nights you could be dropped back to the hotel and collected again and other nights you remain on site. She also said that the deliberation times vary night by night, but it is a lot longer than fans see on screen.

Katelyn told RSVP Live: “Sometimes you go back to the hotel. Sometimes you get taken on a little joyride and on one occasion I just stayed in the castle because I was the last to leave.

“It just depends. It depended on the day and what they were trying to set up.”

Opening up about how they choose who gets murdered, she added: “It is a minimum of 30 minutes, but it could be close to an hour. The time warps in there, but it can be hard to tell.”

Similar to the conversations in the conclave, what it is said during the round tables is also edited back for television.

Katelyn said: “We are in the castle for very long days and producers have to make a decision about what has to stay in to make storylines consistent. There is a lot that doesn’t make it into the show.

“Fair play to Kite Entertainment and RTÉ, there is nothing that is manipulated. There is just some context missing.”

After Katelyn was banished from the castle, she discovered that Paudie and Andrew, who have also since been banished, were father and son.

She said: “I honestly never expected it. I thought Amy and Ben were married or brother and sister, that was the relationship I thought was in there.

“Amy has a tattoo of a bearded man on her leg that looks like Ben and I was convinced they were related or a couple.”

Katelyn and Paudie both voted for each other before her banishment as she turned on him to try and save herself.

She said: “I don’t regret anything. I am a very spiritual person and I believe that everything works out the way it is supposed to.

“If I stayed in there longer I could have become a real villain I didn’t want to become. I agree that it was potentially a bad tactic but I had to give it a shot.

“The table was always swinging that direction and there was always a chance that my vote could have tipped it over.”

The Traitors Ireland continues Sunday night at 9.35pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
