'I tried great-gran's natural hair growth remedy for five months and results were wild'

If you’re determined to achieve Rapunzel-esque hair, one woman insists her grandmother holds the key. With countless products flooding the market, it can be overwhelming to determine where to begin and whether they actually deliver results. Recently, a trichologist shared how often you should wash your hair to prevent shedding.

Nevertheless, TikTok user @melodyyaslan is a big fan of an old-fashioned hair growth secret passed down through the generations – and it features a surprising component. Melody said: “If your grandma never taught you how to achieve rapid hair growth, let me tell you my Slavic grandma’s secret.”

She then displayed a photograph of her great-grandmother’s hair at 60-years-old, which extended past her waist, reaching her bottom.

“And my 80-year-old grandma has hair like this now”, she added. “This plant blocks the enzyme that causes hair loss, it detoxes your scalp, and strengthens hair follicles”.

Melody went on to reveal the ingredient is stinging nettle, and she disclosed “the secret is nettle shampoo.”

One individual claimed that “nettle shampoo grew my hair from bob to long in a year”.

Then, Melody offered some observations she gathered from using the shampoo for “five months.”

She explained that owing to the shampoo’s potency, she doesn’t need conditioner as her hair looks “way more voluminous and better” without it.

“But to make sure my hair isn’t dry, I oil my hair with argan oil”, she continued, explaining that she applies it “before showering”, allows it to “sit for one hour”, and then cleanses only her scalp with nettle shampoo.

“It’s better to use a natural shampoo because modern shampoos have silicones that temporarily make your hair look better, but natural shampoos actually make your hair stronger by itself”, she advised.

Melody also noted for those aiming to “want to maximise results”, they should “drink nettle tea daily”, mentioning her “grandma used to wash her hair with nettle tea”.

In response, another member suggested: “Nettle shampoo + ACV (apple cider vinegar diluted with water) instead of conditioner, before washing your hair rosemary oil on scalp (massage)”.

Clinikally reports that nettles, rich in “high concentration of vitamins, minerals, and bioactive substances, are thought to provide potential benefits for hair health.”

They are believed to boost growth as “nettle root extract contains compounds that are thought to inhibit the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone linked to male and female hair loss”.

Furthermore, it can promote scalp wellness, tackle dandruff and deliver essential nutrients. Nevertheless, results differ between individuals, though it may be an option you want to explore.
