Actress Soha Ali Khan recently shared a frightening experience from her home in Mumbai. Her husband, actor Kunal Kemmu, had to confront a man who had broken into their bedroom in the middle of the night. Despite having his hand in a cast, Kunal acted quickly to protect his family. Just few months ago, Saif Ali Khan also faced a similar situation when he fought off an intruder in his son’s room and was hospitalised after stabbed several times.
Kunal Kemmu once fought an intruder
In an interview with Hauterrfly, Soha described how the intruder entered their home late at night. “In Mumbai, our house was broken into. Kunal caught the thief, and took her to jail. The thief was in our bedroom. We were sleeping, it was 4 in the morning. Kunal’s hand was in cast; he was shooting for Go Goa Gone. We heard a sound, but you often hear sounds in Mumbai, and we didn’t think much of it. But Kunal felt he must investigate; he was very attentive. He began looking around the room, and he pulled the curtain open, and there was a man there with a hanky on his face,” Soha recalled.
According to her, Kunal immediately reacted. “Kunal kicked him, and they fell into the balcony. I was in the room, trying to remember the number for the police. I called the police, and they answered. By then, Kunal came back inside, and said, ‘I think he’s dead.’ The man had actually fallen off the balcony. He wasn’t dead, but he’d hurt his back. He couldn’t move, and then the police came.”
Soha also reflected on her childhood in Delhi, noting the challenges women faced when moving around the city. “When I was growing up in Delhi, it used to be completely dark at night because there were no streetlights. I made sure to travel in groups, and to adhere to curfews set by my parents. I was privileged enough to not have to use public transport, where many women I know have been exposed to indecent behaviour. It was unsafe,” she said.
Earlier Incident at Saif Ali Khan’s Home
The story echoes an earlier incident involving Soha’s brother, Saif Ali Khan. Earlier this year, a man broke into Saif and Kareena Kapoor’s Bandra residence with the intent to rob it. Saif confronted the intruder, sustaining injuries in the process, though the man initially escaped before being apprehended by police.
In an ETimes interview earlier, Saif admitted he had been lax about home security but vowed to be more careful in the future. “Maybe I’m meant to do a few more good films… have some more nice times with family and friends. Do some more charity,” he said.
The probe revealed that the intruder entered the compound next to the building where the actor stays. The suspect gained access to the building using the staircase on the rear side of the building to reach the floor on which the actor lives.
The police stated that the intruder gained access to Khan’s apartment through a fire escape. According to reports, Khan’s house help Eliyama Phillipes alias Lima was the first to spot the intruder around 2 am last night. The actor heard noises when one of his female employees was attacked in Jeh’s room. This prompted Saif to intervene.
Following this, a fight broke out between the actor and the intruder. The intruder then stabbed the actor six times before escaping the spot.
Saif Ali Khan was admitted at 3:30 a.m. after sustaining six injuries inflicted by sharp objects, including two deep wounds. One of these injuries is near his spine.
