A bloke who splashed out £1.75 for a night at the “world’s cheapest Airbnb” has delivered his brutally honest review of both the digs and the landlord. Nacho Barrueco revealed he was intrigued by the prospect of kipping in the “cheapest place in the world” during his Bangkok adventure. The 26-year-old’s initial reaction to the accommodation wasn’t exactly glowing when the Airbnb host gave him the grand tour. Rubbish bags littering the ramshackle property and a dodgy ladder leading to his room in Thailand weren’t exactly promising signs. Yet Nacho persevered and was chuffed with his quarters after the “dangerous” climb to reach them. He joked with the property owner that the entrance method was somewhat mental, but was genuinely wowed by what awaited inside . He exclaimed: “Well, well, well, wonderful. Private room, mosquito net, fan, lots of scent.” Warning notices were dotted about the room cautioning guests not to tread on certain floorboards that might give way. Apart from the risk of plummeting through the floor, the room was actually quite decent, though Nacho did acknowledge the potential hazards. He observed: “The thing is, there are so many holes, if I step too hard here, I’ll end up down there.” The Spanish traveller even praised the owner for making the stay as pleasant as possible. He reflected: “I was quite struck by the modest nature of the neighbourhood and the accommodations on offer. “The experience from the moment I arrived until I settled in was very powerful and made me appreciate the owner’s efforts. The most striking thing was the authenticity of the place: it felt like I was stepping back in time. “I was also struck by how the owner tried to maintain everything as well as possible, despite the state of the neighbourhood. “I even thought about staying for a third night, but there was no availability.” Locals were equally gobsmacked by the room’s price tag, with those accustomed to Nacho’s home city of Madrid facing eye-watering £170 nightly rates. One remarked: “In Madrid, they charge you €200 a night.” Another added: “I saw a young man using the resources at his disposal and putting all his effort into starting a business, I hope he does well and one day has a profitable inn.” A third guest heaped praise on the property owner for the thoughtful touches that elevated the experience, especially a personalised welcome pack. They gushed about the Airbnb host, declaring: “The fact they printed your name and laminated it is incredible, not even in the best hotels do that!”
