I'm Convinced Bucky Barnes Dies In Avengers: Doomsday After Sebastian Stan's Recent Comments

Recently, Sebastian Stan spoke about his tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, and now I'm convinced the character is going to die in Avengers: Doomsday. Stan has had a long Marvel career, having joined the franchise 14 years ago in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, but I fear his journey is coming to an end. Stan was last seen in the MCU in this year's Thunderbolts*, where he joined forces with other struggling superheroes including Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), John Walker (Wyatt Russell) and Red Guardian (David Harbour). The Thunderbolts* post-credits scene featured the team together in New Avengers Tower getting a video of the Fantastic Four's extradimensional ship entering Earth's atmosphere. This scene was setup for Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to hit theaters next December. It was confirmed earlier this year that Stan, along with most of his Thunderbolts* co-stars, would return in the Avengers: Doomsday cast, and the post-credits scene gave some idea of how the characters will fit in. In the end of the movie, the Thunderbolts were rebranded as the New Avengers, and their satellite images of the Fantastic Four ship indicate they'll be part of Avengers: Doomsday's plot, which will no doubt deal with fighting against Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). However, the film could be Stan's last appearance as Bucky Barnes, given his recent comments about his Marvel career. What Sebastian Stan Said Recently About His Marvel Role As Bucky Barnes Recently, Stan appeared on the Stronger Podcast hosted by Don Saladino, where he spoke about his time at Marvel. In talking about what he gained from working in the MCU, Stan hinted at moving on from Marvel, though he didn't necessarily give a timeline for when that might happen. He said: I have to try to offer something different than before. And I’ve never favored one role over another. The Marvel stuff, I’ll always, till the end of time, [feel it] really helped me grow as a person and helped me grow as an actor, and it taught me relationships and [I worked with] Robert Downey [Jr.] and Scarlett [Johansson] and all these people I looked up to. It was a business. It was a family, and it gave me a sense of belonging, and it’s always there for that, but it was only the step one for me. Stan's comment about the MCU being only "step one" in his career is what makes it sound like he might be looking to move on from Marvel. If that's the case, it's possible he's requested to be written out of the franchise, and Avengers: Doomsday could be the best place to do it. After all, audiences can't expect everyone to survive an event film like Avengers: Doomsday. How Sebastian Stan Could Remain In The MCU While Continuing His Career Beyond Marvel While it certainly sounds like Stan is preparing to move on from Marvel, it's possible that he could continue to balance an MCU future with the projects he works on outside the franchise. In the last few years, he's starred in two movies that received a great deal of awards attention — A Different Man and The Apprentice — as well as an MCU movie, so he's already balancing his career well.
