Weather in Hyderabad Today: Cyclone Montha has begun to weaken after making landfall in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday evening but continues to impact neighbouring Telangana. Several districts, including Warangal, remain under a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall. In Hyderabad, residents are witnessing rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for the city. Commuters have been advised to stay cautious as many areas are waterlogged following days of continuous rain. The severe weather has also disrupted flight operations, with airlines issuing advisories for passengers. "The cyclone is weakening for the past 6 hours and may weaken into a depression in the next 6 hours... Northern and Eastern districts of Telangana will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall and 3 districts will receive extremely heavy rainfall... It is moving towards North and Northwest at a speed of 15 Km per hour... Tomorrow, some districts will receive light to moderate rainfall and some isolated pockets will receive heavy rainfall... The weather conditions in Telangana will improve after tomorrow...,” said IMD Scientist Dr A Dharma Raju. Flight Advisories In a post on X, formerly Twitter, SpiceJet informed its passengers that their flight operations could be affected due to bad weather. “#WeatherUpdate: Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Hyderabad (HYD), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may be affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via link https://spicejet.com/#status.” “While we strive to make your journey as seamless as possible, certain factors remain beyond our control. Due to the prevailing cyclone conditions and expected heavy rainfall in and around #Vijayawada, #Visakhapatnam, and #Rajahmundry, flight operations to and from these cities are likely to be affected. We recommend checking your flight status at https://t.co/4fxgr5orzK before leaving for the airport and planning your travel with extra time in view of possible waterlogging and traffic congestion,” said IndiGo. Flyover, Other Commute Hit Several vehicles were stranded on the Hyderabad-Srisailam highway after a section of the road near Nagarkurnool was washed away by heavy rain that started late on Tuesday night. Floodwaters also covered railway tracks and platforms at Dornakal station in Mahabubabad. Warangal and Hanumakonda districts were the worst affected, with some areas receiving over 300mm of rain — the highest this season in Telangana. At Warangal’s Welfare Degree College for Women, 375 students were trapped for hours before the Telangana State Police Disaster Response Force rescued them using ropes and a human chain, as per The Times of India report.
