Hyderabad launches City Level Action Plan for child safety

The government of Telangana, in collaboration with UNICEF and the Hyderabad District Administration, on Thursday, September 18 unveiled “CLAP for Children” – a City-Level Action Plan aimed at making Hyderabad a safer and more supportive city for children.

The initiative seeks to bring together government departments, statutory bodies, and local communities to create an environment where every child in Hyderabad can grow up safe, healthy, and protected. Its key objectives include strengthening statutory bodies and frontline services for timely child protection, promoting coordinated action across multiple departments, and encouraging child and community participation to tackle challenges such as bullying, eve-teasing, unsafe commuting, and drug abuse.

The plan also focuses on data-driven monitoring and accountability through child protection cells and vigilance committees, while enhancing the capacity of frontline workers through regular training in child-friendly and trauma-informed practices.

The declaration launching the initiative was signed in the presence of Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Women and Child Welfare Minister Dansari Seethakka, Secretary of Women and Child Development Anitha Ramachandran, Hyderabad District Collector Hari Chandana Dasari, and UNICEF Chief of Field Office for Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana, Dr. Zelalem Birhanu Taffesse.
