Hurricane Relief Fund Climbs to J$38m and Us$728,000, Nearing Us$1m Milestone

Donations to the Government of Jamaica’s Hurricane Melissa Relief Fund, made through the official relief website – supportjamaica.gov.jm – are approaching US$1 million. Minister of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, Senator Dr. the Hon. Dana Morris Dixon, reported that as of 10:33 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, donations to the Fund had reached US$728,000 and J$38 million. “We’re getting to the US$1 million mark on that site,” Dr. Morris Dixon declared. The Minister, who was speaking during a special press briefing on Hurricane Melissa recovery at Jamaica House on Monday (November 3), noted that the website will soon feature a running total of donations received. The Government has indicated that funds collected will be allocated to emergency relief, housing reconstruction, healthcare support, and economic recovery programmes to advance Jamaica’s long-term rebuilding and resilience efforts. In addition to the relief portal, individuals may contribute via authorised bank accounts listed on the website or through the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM). The Government’s comprehensive national relief and recovery effort is being carried out in partnership with the private sector, the international community, and donor agencies.
