‘Humiliated’ Mohsin Naqvi apologizes to BCCI over Asia Cup row but stubbornly refuses to hand over trophy
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has issued an apology to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for taking the trophy from the Dubai Cricket Stadium. However, Naqvi, who is Pakistan’s Interior Minister, still refused to return the trophy and medals to the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team.
Indian players refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi during the presentation ceremony in Dubai on Sunday, September 28. The ceremony was delayed for nearly an hour before being abruptly ended, forcing India to celebrate their victory without the trophy and drawing criticism of Naqvi’s actions and conduct.
What Happened Shouldn’t Have Happened – Mohsin Naqvi
According to Sports Tak, Mohsin Naqvi apologized to the BCCI for the post-match trophy incident, stating, “What happened shouldn’t have happened.”
However, he continues to withhold the T20 Asia Cup 2025 trophy and medals from India, adding that Suryakumar Yadav must personally collect them. Naqvi is also scheduled to leave for Lahore amid the ongoing controversy.
The Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, citing his official role in Pakistan’s government. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that India could not take the trophy from “a person who represents a country waging a war against us.”
Earlier, Naqvi shared controversial social media posts during the tournament. He posted provocative images, including Pakistan players with fighter jets and a picture of Cristiano Ronaldo with a crashing plane, which influenced India’s decision to reject the trophy.
I Was Standing There Like a Cartoon – Mohsin Naqvi
On September 30, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi declined to congratulate India for their Asia Cup 2025 victory over Pakistan during an ACC meeting.
Following a heated discussion about the trophy controversy, Naqvi admitted feeling humiliated during the presentation ceremony when the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from him.
According to a source close to Sports Tak, Mohsin Naqvi said, “I was standing there like a cartoon without any reason. There was no written information that the Indian team would not accept it from me.”
India celebrated their Asia Cup 2025 win with skipper Suryakumar Yadav and the team recreating Rohit Sharma’s iconic “slow walk” from the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, the celebrations were overshadowed by the fact that the team could not hold the trophy in their hands.
Indian Spinners Shine in Middle Overs as India Defeat Pakistan in Final
India skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to field first in the Asia Cup 2025 final. Pakistan openers Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman added an 84-run partnership from 58 balls to give the team a solid start.
However, the Indian spinners turned the game in the middle order. The Men in Green were bowled out for just 146 runs. Kuldeep Yadav picked up 4 for 30 in his four overs, while Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets each.
Chasing the target, the Indian team collapsed early but completed the chase in 19.4 overs. Tilak Varma anchored the innings with an unbeaten 69 off 53 balls. Shivam Dube scored 33 off 22 deliveries before being dismissed in the 19th over. Varma won the Player of the Match award.
