Huge blow for Dún Laoghaire as popular bakery shuts its doors

We are set to say goodbye to yet another one of Dublin's most popular eateries as Strudel Artisan Bakery has decided to close its doors at the beginning of November. The bakery, which was well known for its creative pastries that were bursting with flavour and freshly baked loaves, made the heartbreaking decision to close its doors for a multitude of reasons. Strudel Bakery has served the people of Dún Laoghaire and the surrounding area for eight years, with owner Tibor announcing the closure on their social media. He wrote: 'It's with a heavy heart that I announce the closure of Strudel Artisan Bakery. There were a lot of contributing factors that led to this decision that I won't get into in this post.' 'I can't really put into words what I feel, what these years have taught me and how grateful I am to have been able to serve the community in Dun Laoghaire and our wholesale clients. Your continued support meant the world to us and to me personally. I'd like to thank all of you for these past 8 years. Our last trading day will be the 1st November, next Saturday, please come down and say goodbye.' Loyal customers were shocked at the announcement from the bakery, sending their condolences under the post. 'Very hard decision to make. Congratulations on creating your business. On all of your unbelievably early mornings and being part of your community.' View this post on Instagram Another penned 'Oh no! My favourite bakery with the best cinnamon buns, creme brulee croissants, the sambos, your sourdough bread, spinach and feta strudel, everything is always yummy. What a loss to Dun Laoghaire!' In a follow-up post, Tibor shared that the rising cost of products was a huge contributing factor to his decision, as well as the fact that he had lost his passion for the bakery. Tibor also shared the reason that Strudel had to close was his struggle in finding more staff to work the nighttime shift to have goods ready for the early morning rush. 'The reason I'm closing, however, is not financial at all. I simply ran out of steam. Despite the financial challenges, we were able to balance our finances by increasing our prices and thankfully, our customers were willing to pay the slightly higher price for the premium quality.' 'So by the end of it, I had nothing left, just a burned-out business owner with no energy left to continue, juggling with the baking, prepping as well as taking care of the back office and everything else. I know I'm not alone, running a business is tough, if you do everything right and you're lucky, you have a team of great people who help you doing so. If any of the above is missing, it's a struggle'. Tibor went on to thank all of his faithful staff who have stuck by him as Strudel flourished, with many praising him for sticking it out for so long. 'I'm really sorry to hear this, burnout is a motherfucker. I loved visiting regularly when I lived locally but has been more difficult since moving further afield. Looking forward to dropping in one last time before closing.' Strudel Bakery is just one of the many Dublin eateries that have shut down over the last few months. If you are in the Dún Laoghaire area next Saturday, pop in to Strudel Artisan Bakery and give them a final farewell!
