Huawei has announced the Watch GT 6 series of smartwatches, adding to its already packed collection of smart wrist wearables. The range consists of the Watch GT 6 and the Watch GT 6 Pro, both of which come in different sizes and designs.
Details are light about the technology inside, with the focus instead going on the battery life and sporting performance. Here’s what you need to know.
New design, or more of the same?
Don’t expect a radical departure from the Watch GT 5 series for the Watch GT 6 series’ design, as there appears to be only minor changes between them. The Watch GT 6 and Watch GT 6 Pro come in a 46mm case size, plus there’s a 41mm case size for the Watch GT 6. It seems the 42mm Pro model has been dropped from the range.
Huawei hasn’t stated exact screen sizes for either model, but does say the Watch GT 6 Pro’s screen is 5.5% larger than the 1.43-inch screen on the Watch GT 5 Pro, edging it close to 1.5-inches, and peak brightness is now 3,000 nits. The 41mm Watch GT 5 had a 1.32-inch screen, which it seems has carried over for the 41mm Watch GT 6.
The Watch GT 6 Pro has a titanium case, a ceramic rear cover, and sapphire glass over the screen, plus it comes in three different colors: black, brown, and titanium. The 46mm GT 6 comes in brown, black, and a new green color, while the 41mm GT 6 comes in black, brown, white, and gold. It also features a new pivoting lug system for a snug fit on your wrist.
What about the technology?
The battery inside the Watch GT 6 series has a substantial 65% capacity increase over the Watch GT 5 series, and the 46mm models should return 21 days of use on a single charge with light use. The smaller 41mm Watch GT 6 will last about 14 days on a single charge with light use. Huawei hasn’t mentioned battery life expectations from heavy use, but it’ll be considerably less.
Huawei’s also talking up its upgraded GPS, new metrics including cycling virtual power, heart rate variability (HRV) tracking, and a health analysis feature which takes in multiple data points to summarize health trends and promote healthy habits. The Watch GT 6 series will connect with the Huawei Health app, which is available for Android and iOS.
