Huawei-Backed Maextro S800 Takes On Rolls-Royce Phantom, Maybach S-Class In China

Maextro, the luxury marque born out of a joint venture between Huawei and JAC, has unveiled its first product for the Chinese market: the Maextro S800. Positioned as a stately sedan, the model takes direct aim at ultra-luxury rivals like Mercedes-Maybach and Rolls-Royce.
The S800 officially entered the market on May 30, when pricing was announced. Within just 24 hours, the sedan had already secured 1,600 orders, and by the end of its first month on sale, bookings had surged to 6,500 units.
Design And Dimensions
The Maextro S800 carries a strong resemblance to traditional luxury sedans with a long bonnet, boxy stance and upright front profile. At the same time, it has modern electric styling, marked by clean surfaces and full LED lighting. The rear end is highlighted by a connected light bar with a nebula-inspired theme called the “galaxy scroll,” designed to create a Milky Way effect at night.
The sedan measures 5,480 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width and 1,536 mm in height with a wheelbase of 3,370 mm. This makes it longer than a Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and nearly as large as the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Buyers can opt for either 20-inch spoke wheels or larger 21-inch ‘big disc’ wheels. The car also supports optional digital cameras in place of traditional side-view mirrors.

Power And Range
The fully electric S800 uses a dual-motor setup producing 390 kW (523 hp) with a 95 kWh battery. Under China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) conditions, it claims a range of 702 km.
The hybrid versions, called Extended-Range Electric Vehicles (EREV), combine electric motors with a 1.5-litre turbocharged generator. Customers can choose a dual-motor setup with 505 kW output or a tri-motor version with 750 kW. Both are supported by the same 95 kWh battery pack. Driving ranges reach 1,333 km for the dual-motor and 1,200 km for the tri-motor, with 400 km and 365 km, respectively, available in pure electric mode.
Technology And Features
Charging speed is another highlight. The S800 can get from 10 to 80 per cent charged in just 12 minutes through ultra-fast charging stations. Despite its large size, the sedan features rear-wheel steering, which brings its turning radius down to 5.05 meters. It also supports crab-walk functionality that allows the car to move diagonally.
The front styling is characterised by two horizontally aligned lighting elements, and the interior layout is offered in both 5-seat and 4-seat formats.
Interior And Features
Step inside the Maextro S800 and the focus on luxury becomes clear. The cabin adopts Huawei’s latest head-up display and is supported by an advanced 43-speaker system delivering up to 2,920 W of sound.
The dashboard stretches across with three screens: a driver display, a central 15.6-inch touchscreen and a 16-inch screen for the front passenger. Rear passengers also enjoy windows that can be dimmed with just a swipe of the hand.
Materials used throughout the cabin include nappa leather, suede, brushed wood and metal finishes for a premium feel. In the back, the individual armchairs come with heating, cooling and massage functions. There is a central console equipped with fold-out tables, a refrigerator and holders for crystal glasses.

The Maextro S800 is being offered in both electric and hybrid (EREV) versions. Prices begin at 708,000 yuan (approximately Rs 87 lakh) and extend up to 1,018,000 yuan (around Rs 1.25 crore). For perspective, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class in China starts at 1,468,000 yuan (Rs 1.8 crore).
