How Trump’s tariffs could affect Halloween season

Retailers are warning that tariffs introduced during the Trump administration could increase prices on popular items such as Halloween candy and costumes.

Specific examples include costume tariffs ranging from 5% to 19% and a fog machine’s price rising from $58 to $74, with some invoices showing additional tariff charges up to $700.

Major candy producer Hershey plans double-digit price increases due to high cocoa costs and tariff pressures, with other retailers anticipating further hyperinflation on goods.

Despite concerns about the economic outlook due to inflation and tariffs, the National Retail Federation projects record Halloween spending of $13.1 billion in 2025.

Many tariffs from the previous US administration remain in effect, with the Supreme Court currently reviewing their legality, and are also expected to impact future holiday costs like fireworks.
