Croke Park in Dublin hosts Ireland’s first ever NFL game, though it’s technically a home fixture for the Steelers, given the Rooney family’s Irish heritage. But they’ve not made it easy on themselves. Nobody has a better International Series record than the Vikings, who have gone 4-0 in overseas games and built up a sizeable following across the pond in the process.

The Steelers, meanwhile, lost their only previous overseas game — to the Vikings — 12 years ago. What they do have is Aaron Rodgers, the most internationally famous NFL player behind Travis Kelce. The 41-year-old, though, was sacked three times and threw a career-high three interceptions, including a pick-six, on his last international outing, and it was all down to Minnesota’s defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
Late-stage Rodgers can’t handle the blitz, and under Flores the tactic has been extremely fruitful for the Vikings. What’s more concerning for the Steelers is the lack of a workable Plan B. Running backs Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell have been non-factors on the ground so far this season, although ironically, Warren has been Rodgers’ most reliable passing target, ahead of DK Metcalf and Jonnu Smith.
Having last made consecutive starts in 2022, Carson Wentz is a huge unknown, but unlike Rodgers he can lean heavily on his teammates. Justin Jefferson is one of the NFL’s best and most consistent receivers, while running back Jordan Mason is up against a defense that ranks amongst the worst in the league for missed tackles. Isaiah Rodgers and Andrew van Ginkel tuned up with two defensive touchdowns and two sacks respectively last weekend — and it was the latter that was Rodgers’ chief tormentor a year ago.
