Streameast alternatives (free, discounted) Texas enters as the No. 20 team in the country with its playoff hopes almost certainly on the line against the upstart No. 9 Vanderbilt Commodores. While Texas, the preseason No. 1 team, has struggled so far this season, Vanderbilt has been an program that has proven itself to be one of the nation’s best. Paired with the question over Texas quarterback Arch Manning’s health, the Longhorns are certainly up against it. Despite all that, Texas enters as favorites. Players to watch Manning, who is in concussion protocol, has completed 60.9% of his passes this season with 15 touchdowns and six interceptions. He’s thrown for 1,795 yards. If he cannot play, Matthew Caldwell will slide in at quarterback for the Longhorns. He’s thrown just 11 passes this season. Meaning, Texas will have to rely on its defense. Anthony Hill Jr. has 60 tackles and 2.5 sacks this season, while outside linebacker Colin Simmons has seven sacks. Vanderbilt will try and counter with Diego Pavia at quarterback, one of the most electrifying players in the sport. He’s thrown for 1,698 yards and 15 touchdowns this year with five interceptions. He’s also added 458 yards on the ground. Tight end Eli Stowers is his favorite target. He has 31 catches for 397 yards with two touchdowns. Watch Texas vs. Vanderbilt for free on FuboTV What’s next? Vanderbilt has games against Auburn, Kentucky and Tennessee to end the season. With a win, the Commodores will move to 8-1 and inch closer to a spot in the College Football Playoff. Texas, on the other hand, has a much harder path. The Longhorns cannot take another loss, and will play Georgia, Arkansas and Texas A&M to end the season. In what should be a fascinating end to the regular season in college football, these two figure to be at the center of it. Watch Texas vs. Vanderbilt for free on DIRECTV Elimination inbound? Because of Texas’ two losses this season, the Longhorns could find themselves on the outside looking in for the College Football Playoff. Texas lost in the season opener to Ohio State, then lost a few weeks later at Florida. With two losses, amongst a crowded SEC, the Longhorns could be out of contention on the first day of November. That seemed very unlikely when the season began. Fittingly, it could be Vanderbilt, one of the surprise teams in the sport this season, that delivers the final blow to Texas to end its playoff chances. As the regular season hits the homestretch, there figures to be more and more elimination games. This is one of the bigger ones. Who is announcing Texas vs. Vanderbilt? The game on ESPN will be called by Sean McDonough as the play-by-play commentator and Greg McIlroy as the color analyst. Molly McGrath will be on the sidelines.
