Has there been any controversy around the show?
So far season 15 has avoided having any internal drama splash across the tabloids, but previous seasons of My Kitchen Rules have gotten more than just a little hot in the kitchen…
While we occasionally see some of the simmering tension between competing teams spill out on cameras, it’s the off-screen antics that have caused the most controversy previously. Season five and nine both saw this unfold with verbal and physical altercations occurring and becoming big stories in themselves.
This alleged toxic atmosphere also extends to the network itself with Seven required to pay former contestant Piper O’Neill due to what she claims was a psychological injury. She was quoted as saying that she suffered “vilification and bullying from producers and the network” during season 10.
The show has readdressed this balance from 2022 with the focus less on the personal drama between contestants and more on the cooking itself. This may also be to try and claim back some of the viewers that abandoned the show at the height of the interpersonal drama between the couples.
