His story is that she must have fallen overboard or gone for a swim and drowned while he was asleep. His reasons for not calling he coastguard was that he assumed the police would do that (although they counter claim that they told him to do so).
But something does not feel right. Dhondy has said: “Sarm’s possessions including her passport, wallet and phone were still onboard the catamaran when she vanished. There are so many unanswered questions about her disappearance.”
On advice from his lawyer, Bane denied the coastguard a full forensic search and refused questioning by the police by invoking his U.S. Amendment rights but Sam’s family and friends (and Dhondy) have not given up their search for the truth.

‘Missing in Paradise: Searching for Sarm’ – Episode guide

Season 01 Episode 01: On the night of 7 March 2021, Sarm Heslop disappeared from Siren Song, a luxury charter yacht in the Caribbean where she was living with her boyfriend, Ryan Bane. She hasn’t been seen since. Did Sarm vanish of her own accord? Was there a terrible accident? Or did something more sinister happen? Journalist Tir Dhondy retraces Sarm’s last known movements and tracks down two boat captains whose vessels were moored near the yacht she vanished from. And for the first time, she gets to question Ryan’s account of what happened through his lawyer David Cattie.
S01 E02: Dhondy meets with island police and is given CCTV footage that has never been released, showing Sarm’s last known movements with Ryan.
S01 E03: Dhondy searches for the yacht Sarm vanished from and tracks down Ryan Bane’s ex-wife, hearing first-hand about her experiences while married to him.

‘Missing in Paradise: Searching for Sarm’ — FAQ

Did the police issue a description of Sarm Heslop?
They did. The police described her as a “5ft 8in Caucasian female of slim build. She has a bright coloured tattoo on her left shoulder featuring a seahorse, bird, butterfly and a pink flower.” Unfortunately, they did not release CCTV footage of her and Bane making their way to the boat on the night she disappeared – this has been unearthed and will be shown by the BBC documentary for the first time on Wednesday, 17 September.

What else can I watch on BBC iPlayer?
Lots – including “Strike: Ink Black Heart”, “Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special”, “Call The Midwife”, “Doctor Who: Joy to the World”, “Strictly Come Dancing”, “Outnumbered” and plenty more.
