Premier League champions Liverpool will continue their title defence this afternoon, visiting eight-time winners Manchester City. After a considerable dip in form earlier this month, which saw Arne Slot’s side win just once in a seven-match run, the Reds seem to be back to their best. They have now won two in a row, beating Aston Villa in the Premier League before dispatching a listless Real Madrid in the Champions League, 1-0. As they look to spoil the party on Pep Guardiola’s 1000th game in management, Liverpool will likely have to make do without Alexander Isak from the start. The Swedish striker has been out for almost three weeks with a groin issue and returned to full team training this week, but it remains to be seen whether he will be passed fit for today’s match. Man City, though, are at the peak of their powers. They barely broke a sweat en route to beating Borussia Dortmund 4-1 in midweek, their sixth win in their last seven games across all competitions Furthermore, they have not tasted defeat at home since losing to Tottenham in August.
