Minnesota entered the WNBA Playoffs as the top overall seed, and if Sunday’s Game 1 was any indication, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with. The Lynx defeated the Valkyries 101-72, showcasing a combination of effective offense and stifling defense.
The Lynx shot an impressive 51.5% as a team from the floor, 41.7% from the 3-point line, and made 21-of-24 attempts from the free-throw line (87.5%). Napheesa Collier led the way with 20 points and six rebounds on 7-for-11 from the field, with Natisha Hiedeman scoring 18 off the bench.
While the Valkyries started the game well, holding a 28-21 lead after the first quarter, the offense fell apart the rest of the way. Golden State shot 9-for-18 (50%) in the first quarter but just 11-for-41 (26.8%) the rest of the way. Four different starters scored in double figures, led by Veronica Burton’s 14 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.
