Hawaii’s potential game-tying two-point conversion fell incomplete on Sept. 20 in a 23-21 loss to visiting Fresno State in its conference opener. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Rainbow Warriors, who fought through four turnovers to make it close. Kansei Matsuzawa booted a career-long 52-yard field goal in the loss, while Jamih Otis returned a fumble 37 yards for a touchdown. Micah Alejado was 28-of-47 for 219 yards and a touchdown but threw three interceptions, including a pick-six.
Air Force battled visiting Boise State before taking a 49-37 loss on Sept. 20. Quarterback Lian Szarka threw for 246 yards and two touchdowns while adding 110 yards and a score on the ground, and Dylan Carson ran for 109 yards and a TD on 16 attempts as the teams combined for 1,106 yards of total offense. The Falcons fell to 0-2 in Mountain West play after losing at Utah State 49-30 on Sept. 13.
