Another season of “The Golden Bachelor” kicks off tonight.
It marks the second installment of the senior “Bachelor” spin-off (the first, which aired in the fall of 2023, ended in divorce). This season will be led by Mel Owens, 66, a lawyer and former NFL linebacker who played for the Los Angeles Rams from 1981 to 1989. Owens is a father of two who is divorced from his first wife.
In June 2025, ahead of the season, Owens made headlines when he stated, “If they’re 60 or over, I’m cutting them,” on the “In the Trenches” podcast. He continued that he was frank with producers during the casting process, telling them he only wanted women aged “45 to 60 … just being honest.”
Owens faced backlash for his comments, and in August, he apologized in an exclusive interview with Glamour.
Owens’ “Golden Bachelor” journey begins tonight when he meets the 23 women vying for his love.
