The Rainbow Vomit Shotgun isn’t the most appetizing of names, but its effects are. Borderlands 4 has many kooky weapons capable of inflicting mega damage and status-afflicting effects, and the Rainbow Vomit Shotgun has become one of the most desirable in the community.

The majority of loot in Borderlands 4 is worthless junk you’re never going to use and only ever going to sell. Occasionally, the odd legendary will drop and give you some food for thought. With Pearlescents on the way, you’ve got plenty of opportunity to score some deadly weapons.

Borderlands 4’s Rainbow Vomit Shotgun is about as good as any. Let’s run through how to get it.

Where is The Rainbow Vomit Shotgun in Borderlands 4?

You can either farm the Leader Willem boss, get lucky and hope it pops up in a Vending Machine as a special offer weapon, or finish the Borderlands 4 main story, complete the first Wildcard mission, and claim it as a reward.

Leader Willem

To unlock this fight to farm for the weapon, you need to complete the following steps:

Head to the Carcadia City area in Carcadia Burns—where you also find Moxxi’s bar.

Start the Enter the Electi side quest.

You must complete each subsequent side quest in this line until you reach The Mole’s Gambit.

During this final quest, you encounter the boss—Leader Willem.

Defeat the boss to earn a loot pool.

If you don’t get the Rainbow Vomit Shotgun, you must replay the boss fight.

Vending Machine

While we’ve not been able to verify this for ourselves, many in the Borderlands 4 community have claimed to have had the Rainbow Shotgun as a Deal of the Day Vending Machine drop.

You’re more likely to find the Rainbow Vomit Shotgun as a drop through the Legendary Vending Machine—found during the Vend of the Line quest.

Wildcard Mission

You unlock Wildcard Missions when you complete the game and enter Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode. The “A Lot To Process” Wildcard Missions offers a Rainbow Vomit Shotgun as a reward.

What Does The Rainbow Vomit Shotgun Do in Borderlands 4?

The Rainbow Vomit Shotgun is capable of doing combinations of status damage (Cryo, Incendiary, Shock, Radiation) with every slug, and if you score a critical hit, the shell ricochets off the enemy (still causing damage) and hits anyone nearby.

As with all Shotguns, you get a times multiplier for every slug with the Rainbow Vonmit Shotgun. Accuracy is paramount, and it does incredible damage on its own. However, the bigger story here is the multiple levels of status damage. Each shot fires a literal rainbow slug of status effects, and even the gun itself has a shiny rainbow tinge to it!

But if you’ve focused your skill points on status build-up, the Rainbow Vomit Shotgun is guaranteed to hit enemies way harder and drain their health faster.
