How to Buckle a Digger

Rest easy any Ozzies reading this; this is about a large excavator being used on the Playa Granada breakwater, or groyne — never sure which.

The arm developed a fissure in the metal after a bout of showing off with some over-sized rocks that are being laid along this coastal-defence structure.

A solderer had to be called in to weld in some reinforcing pieces to avoid things getting worse. The solderer warned that if it wasn’t sorted out right away, the arm could fail completely, as soon as the summer break in the construction work recommences.

This groyne requires 100,000 tonnes of boulders, which are coming from an arguably illegal quarry in Lobres.

We use “arguably” to cover ourselves although it appears to be general knowledge that the quarry should not be running owing to its proximity to the village, amongst other reasons.

Anyway, these boulders weigh anywhere in between 1,000 kilos (one metric tonne) and 6,000 kilos each, so you wouldn’t want one dropped on your foot.

Reader’s comment: “So the usual in business and politics. Fair play and the rule of law disappears,Greed or business non ethics. Council that are hot on parking fines etc, allow Lobres residents to enjoy the sound of industrial works and dust in the air.” – PB Storey
