If you’ve tried to access BBC Sounds – the broadcaster’s dedicated radio, podcast and music app – from anywhere, you may have noticed a problem: it’s now blocked outside the U.K.. Shame.
But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with our full guide to how to listen to BBC Sounds from anywhere in the world with a VPN (try risk-free).

How to listen to BBC Sounds

• U.K. — bbc.co.uk/sounds or BBC Sounds app (iOS / Android)
• Get BBC Sounds anywhere — NordVPN 100% risk free trial

BBC Sounds is an industry-leading platform from the U.K. broadcaster that provides access to free access all its radio, podcast and music output. From news, soccer and true crime podcasts to “The Archers”, BBC Sounds has it all.
As for music, and beyond the myriad BBC radio stations available to listen to, there are also playlists galore on BBC Sounds. You could try sets from Radio 2 In The Park, Radio 1’s Live Lounge coverage, 6 Music’s Indie Forever playlist or Sleep Tracks to help you drift off to the land of nod.
On July 21, 2025, the corporation made the decision to prevent access to BBC Sounds from outside the U.K., though U.K. residents can continue to access it from abroad with a VPN.
Our best streaming VPN services will help you to access BBC Sounds from anywhere. Looking for British TV rather than radio? We have you covered for how to watch BBC iPlayer too.

For those in the U.S., or residents of other countries, over 1,000 current and archived BBC podcasts are available on the BBC.com website or BBC app, including hits like “Global News Podcast”, “You’re Dead to Me” and “Infinite Monkey Cage”, plus BBC Radio 4 and World Service stations. Here is a handy explainer.
