How People Are Feeling About America's Election Results

Hot Topic 🔥 Full coverage and conversation on Politics Last night in America, elections were held in states such as New York, New Jersey, Georgia, California, and Colorado. Not only was the voter turnout historic (with more than two million people voting in the New York election alone), but Democrats had huge wins across the board — all in the middle of the longest government shutdown in history. Naturally, this has garnered A LOT of reactions from people across the internet. So when Reddit user owen__wilsons__nose asked: "Reddit, how are we feeling about tonight's election results?" I wanted to share their reactions. Here's what they said below: 1. "This is a VERY clear message to Trump and the entire Republican party: QUIT TRYING TO FUCK OVER AMERICANS! We are not happy and will vote your asses out." 2. "In my township, a Democrat won an office at the local level for the first time in over 20 years. So, pretty good!" —orangesfwr BuzzFeed TrendingHot Topic Let's chat about all things Politics See our Politics Discussions 3. "2025 has been an awful year for any sane and intelligent person living in the US. But today… Today was a good day. I will take it with gratitude." 4. "As an Australian, it’s interesting to watch American conservative voters going into bat for the corporations that bankrupt them." —Falstaffe 5. "I feel like tonight should be the reminder that everyone has a voice, whether you're deep in a red state or a blue state. Every voice counts at the polls. You just need everyone to show up. Every voice not there is a voice unheard." 6. "Unless Trump truly goes full dictator within the next year and makes any future elections about as fair and balanced as a Fox News broadcast, midterms will be a bloodbath. We may even get a swing big enough that could ensure a successful Trump impeachment." —Clbull 7. "The Virginia House of Delegates had a clean sweep, which is an even bigger story, not a lot of people are covering." 8. "I think the results are a justified reaction to the horrible 2024 outcome." —cuddlblankets "My take is that it really shows how much Joe Biden dragged down the entire party by running again. He made the entire campaign about how he was obviously too old to run, let alone do the job, and not keep the narrative where it should have been on the actual issues. People wanted change. They wanted new, younger candidates and newer ideas. He should have listened. Instead, Ruth Bader Ginsburg ginsburged us all." —Thin-Image2363 "There's also the same reason Biden won in 2020 that comes into play. When Trump is in power, people actually realize that he really is that bad. Since Trump has come to the forefront, the GOP has only won major elections when he wasn't in power (2016, 2022 (which was still a wash), and 2024)." —Neuromangoman 9. "I have hope. I'm also so sick and tired of people saying 'Donald Trump just wins everything,' 'America will never recover,' 'What free elections?' 'America is done for,' and most of these are coming from Democrats or liberals. Democrats. Get your shit together! Let's do better. Let's not bend over for Trump and Co." 10. "It shows that we can, in fact, push Democratic candidates who have policies that democratic voters want and (gasp) some conservatives might not like. It is ok to push a candidate who does something people want." —HillarysEmailServers 11. "Extremely proud of my fellow New Yorkers for rejecting the sex pest and for having the biggest voter turnout since 1969." 12. "This is the first time I’ve had an even remotely positive feeling about politics in (checks calendar) 364 days." —thedancingj 13. "I live in a very conservative county in Colorado. There was a school board election pitting a group of former teachers and educators (labeled as progressives) against a group of 'concerned parents' with no experience and a platform of keeping boys out of girls' sports, even though there hasn’t been a single trans kid in our community trying to compete in girls' sports. The conservatives are losing." 14. "I live in a red county in the Cleveland metro area. We had a school board election with seven people running for three open seats. Three of them ran as a group and were endorsed by the GOP, with even help from Bernie Moreno. They ran on cutting expenses, banning books, and not allowing Use 'transgender' always as an adjective kids to use the bathroom that aligns with their gender. They outspent the other candidates and even had money to put out mass texts to citizens of my city. They lost, all three of them, lost. I'm shocked, in a good way. This is a city and a county that is strongly red, and these three, with all this support, still lost. I don't know how much to read into this, but this, combined with all of the other results from across the country, has me in a way better mood than I had expected to be in today." —brahbocop 15. "PROP 50, YES, BABY!" 16. "Pennsylvanian here. I’m quite pleased I’m going to sleep content that Mandami got NYC and PA Supreme Court judges have all been retained to keep the democratic majority. It’s weird to have contentment while knowing that 52 Tuesdays ago, I was crying in a panic trying to sleep. Anyway fuck ICE, free Palestine, and go birds. 🦅" —WinterChalice 17. "Leaving an overview for anyone who wants to see a bunch of stuff in one place! Trump was very much on the ballots tonight, and pretty much every race I've heard of told him to go fuck himself, and by some pretty goddamn good margins, too. Not all votes are in, but as of this post:" So, whether you're American or live across the world, we want to know how you're feeling about last night's election results either in the comments or in the anonymous form below:
