Joe Lacob asked Jonathan Kuminga a blunt question
Right now, the Warriors are at major risk if the Kuminga saga isn’t resolved. After all, as things stand, the Warriors are on the short end of the stick until Kuminga agrees to a new deal.
The 22-year-old has been eyeing a massive payday with the Warriors. Alternatively, he wants a deal that gives him control over his future, i.e., a player option.
In a worst-case scenario, Kuminga would be open to joining other teams in the league. That brought Dubs owner Joe Lacob to ask a pressing question, per ESPN’s Anthony Slater and Shams Charania.
“Do you want to be here?” the ESPN reporters revealed.
So, what is the offer that the Dubs have made to Kuminga?
“The $21.7 million salary the Warriors were proposing to give Kuminga next season was more immediate money than he would receive in the theoretical Phoenix and Sacramento offers — though far less in long-term guarantees.
“It would make him the fourth highest-paid player on a team with three Hall of Famers,” the report revealed.
“Considering the frigid nature of the restricted market, the Warriors, sources said, felt the offer more than fair and Kuminga’s reluctance a sign of his desire to escape,” they added.
