The Trump administration and its conservative allies are trying to change the culture of American universities. Academia has a long tradition of resisting outside interference, but many institutions are still making changes, whether it is dissolving diversity, equity and inclusion offices or seeking to increase “viewpoint diversity” on campuses. We are wondering how the changing political and financial climate is already touching classrooms and laboratories and what this means in the day-to-day lives of faculty members across the country.
